CALDÈ, “THE PORTOFINO OF LAKE MAGGIORE”
A small pearl overlooking the lake, popular with tourists and illustrious figures since the early twentieth century
Caldè, a charming hamlet of Castelveccana overlooking the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore, is a renowned tourist destination, known for the evocative atmosphere of its intimate lakeside, dotted with bars and restaurants. It has been nicknamed the "Portofino of Lake Maggiore" and, since the 1920s, has attracted numerous illustrious figures such as Beniamino Gigli and Carla Fracci.
During the summer months, Caldè is very popular with tourists and residents, who appreciate the range of services on offer, including a small tourist port, a nautical school, a large car park and the convenient train station behind it, which makes the town easily accessible by train.
Among the most iconic elements stands out the church of Santa Veronica, built in the 13th century on a rocky spur above the village, and reachable on foot via a short marked path that offers those who walk along it a breathtaking view of the lake and the Piedmont Alps.
Caldè also preserves the memory of its industrial past: some ancient kilns for cooking limestone are still visible, today in disuse and not visitable for safety reasons.
