PLACES

32 municipalities, over 30,000 hectares and 77,000 inhabitants: the Verbano Valleys overlook the upper Lake Maggiore, in the northern Varese area. A territory rich in nature, villages, history and much more.

The territory of the Verbano Valleys extends into the upper Lake Maggiore, in the north of the province of Varese, next to the Swiss and Piedmont borders. It falls under the homonymous Mountain Community, created in 2009, which includes 32 Municipalities, covers over 30 thousand hectares and has about 77 thousand inhabitants.

Strongly characterised by the presence of the lake, this area also features a complex system of green valleys rich in biodiversity that includes Val Veddasca, Valtravaglia, the Tresa River Valley and Valcuvia: here, villages, small towns, mountain villages, woods, cultivated hills, productive and residential areas alternate, offering those who come here a heterogeneous and fascinating landscape, all to be discovered.

In addition to the numerous places of naturalistic and sporting interest - such as the eight Natura 2000 sites including the "Monte Sangiano", the "Monti della Valcuvia" and the Val Veddasca - , the Valleys of Verbano also host a vast series of important cultural realities, from museums to testimonies of various historical periods, which further enrich the tourist and cultural offering.
