The Monteviasco Basin and Piero's Mills
An immersion in the authentic heart of the Veddasca Valley, among historic mule tracks, silent woods and atmospheres of times gone by.
This circular hike starting from Curiglia (VA) leads to the Mulini di Piero and then to Monteviasco, a small village reachable only on foot, suspended in time and nestled in nature. The trail extends over approximately 14 km with an elevation gain of 600 metres, with an average travel time of 5 and a half hours.
The route winds along cobbled mule tracks and forest paths, passing through ancient beech and chestnut groves that turn spectacular colors in autumn. The fatigue of the climb is rewarded by the absolute quiet, the scent of moss and damp wood, and that feeling of detachment that only roadless places can provide. Monteviasco, with its stone houses, piöda roofs and paved streets, is an example of rural mountain architecture that has remained almost intact.
Recommended for those looking for a non-trivial excursion, far from mass tourism, with an authentic "time travel" atmosphere. Ideal in spring.
