The Fort of Orino from Gavirate
Starting from Gavirate, this excursion leads to one of the places most dear to all the Varesini, the Fort of Orino.
The route extends for approximately 14 km, with 850 metres of positive altitude difference (path 313), which can be tackled in approximately 6 hours of walking. A challenging but rewarding route, suitable for experienced or well-trained hikers.
The Orino Fort can also be reached from the municipalities of Orino and Cocquio Trevisago, a hamlet of Cerro, with a smaller difference in altitude, 650m respectively via paths 302 and 317.
The climb passes through extremely varied natural environments: chestnut forests, beech trees and clearings.
Arriving at the Fort of Orino pays for every effort. From up here you can dominate the Varese area, the pre-Alpine lakes, the Po Valley and on clear days you can clearly distinguish Monte Rosa, the Pennine Alps and even the distant Apennines.
An excursion for those who love great views, historical testimonies and challenges in the natural environment.
