The Pizzoni of Laveno
The excursion to Pizzoni di Laveno is among the most scenic in the entire province of Varese and starts from the village of Vararo.
The route extends for approximately 9 km, with 500 metres of positive altitude difference, for an average time of 4.5 hours. The first part winds through the woods and then opens onto rocky slopes that lead to the ridges. The "Pizzoni", a term used in dialect to indicate spikes or pointed rocks, offer a unique vantage point on the Lombard shore of Verbano and on the Alpine chain.
The final stretch takes place on more technical, but well-marked, terrain and offers breathtaking views: the lake shines at the foot, while in the distance you can see Mottarone, Monte Rosa and even Monte Generoso on clear days.
The place, less frequented than other more well-known destinations, retains an intimate atmosphere. In spring and early summer, the slope is colored with broom. In summer, the wind blowing from the north cools even the hottest days.
Perfect for those who love ridge trails and are looking for a unique glimpse of the lake, without straying too far from residential areas.
