The Monte Lema ring
Mount Lema is one of the most iconic peaks in the Varese border area.
This 12 km loop hike, starting from Pradecolo, passes through majestic beech forests, mountain pastures, and grassy ridges with splendid views of Alto Verbano and the Ticino valleys.
The positive difference in altitude is 600 m, with a duration of approximately 5 hours. After an initial climb into the woods, the trail opens onto wide pastures where cows and goats graze. Climbing towards the ridge you reach the Italian-Swiss border and from there you follow a truly spectacular ridge route.
The Lema is a prime spot for free flight, and on good days the skies come alive with colorful paragliders. From the summit you can enjoy a view that ranges from the Lombard lakes to Lake Lugano, up to the Alpine circle.
Two key points of the itinerary are the Alpone di Curiglia and the small church of the Madonna della Guardia.
