PARISI VALLE MUSEUM

The "bridge museum" overlooking the Jonah periodically hosts artistic exhibitions strongly linked to the territory

The Parisi Valle Civic Museum in Maccagno takes its name from the architectural structure designed by Maurizio Sacripanti, which has a particularly symbolic significance as it unites Maccagno Superiore and Maccagno Inferiore, which until then had been divided by the Giona River.

The idea of establishing such a futuristic museum in Maccagno, a small town in the upper Verbano area, began to take shape in 1977 when Giuseppe Vittorio Parisi, an artist born in Maccagno in 1915, a teacher and visual researcher, returned for a holiday on Lake Maggiore and was fascinated by it.

From there, the idea of creating an art center away from the major urban areas was born, paving the way for the process that, within twenty years, led to the creation of one of the few post-war Italian museums, thanks to the donation of the collection of over two thousand works preserved by Parisi and his wife, Wanda Valle.

To these—which include works by such illustrious names as Picasso, Balla, and De Chirico—further acquisitions have been made over the years, further expanding the artistic holdings of the museum. Today, the museum frequently hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events with particular ties to the local area.
