LUINO RAILWAY MUSEUM

An unmissable stop for lovers of history and the world of trains born from the passion of a group of railway workers and enthusiasts

The Verbano Railway Museum, founded in 1998 by Verbano Express Association, is a must-see for history and train enthusiasts. Born from the passion of a group of railway workers and enthusiasts, the museum aims to preserve and enhance the railway heritage of the Verbano area through the recovery, restoration, and conservation of historic vehicles.

The headquarters is located in a locomotive shed from 1882, a period-inspired building housing authentic gems of railway technology and design. Here, you can admire vintage vehicles that once served on local railway lines, along with tools and equipment from historic machine shops.

Among the most significant pieces of the collection stand out two steam locomotives: the FS Group 625.116 of 1922 and the BR 50 3673 from 1941, the latter still functioning and used for special tourist trips that are periodically organized by the association to offer visitors a one-of-a-kind experience.

Completing the exhibition are several diesel locomotives from the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the prestigious FS E.428 electric locomotive, testimony to the technological evolution in rail transport.

The Verbano Railway Museum can be visited on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, from 14:30 to 18:00. It is also possible to arrange visits upon request by contacting the director at direttoremuseo@verbanoexpress.com.
