THE "SARTORIO-BANFI" ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM

A few steps from the border you can encounter a small but precious testimony to local history and traditions

In Tronzano Lago Maggiore, a small border town, there is the Sartorio-Banfi Ethnographic Museum, a small but precious testimony to local history and traditions.

The village is in fact crossed by the historic Street of the People, an ancient route connecting the Po Valley and the north of the Alps which, over the centuries, has seen merchants, artisans and travellers pass through, bringing with them arts, crafts and objects collected even from beyond the border.

The museum preserves and narrates this cultural heritage through various exhibition areas. One, for example, is dedicated to rural life, with everyday tools such as planes, coffee roasters, and coal-fired irons, testaments to the simplicity and craftsmanship of the past.

Another section collects memorabilia linked to military history, including uniforms and documents belonging to local soldiers who took part in various wars, while another area is dedicated to personal care and beauty in the 19th century: beauty cases with vintage powders, perfume bottles, accessories and original clothing allow you to immerse yourself in the elegance and daily rituals of two centuries ago.

The Sartorio-Banfi Ethnographic Museum is not just an exhibition space, but a bridge between different eras, capable of telling stories of travel, exchanges, and everyday life with an intimate and personal touch.
