PIERO CHIARA AND VITTORIO SERENI HISTORICAL ARCHIVES
Luino preserves a precious cultural heritage linked to two of its most famous citizens: Vittorio Sereni and Piero Chiara
Their private archives are now located on the second floor of Palazzo Verbania, which was a source of literary inspiration for both of them. Sereni dedicated his poem Terrace to the palace , while Chiara set there unforgettable episodes of his novel The plate is crying.
The Vittorio Sereni Fund is a rich collection of documents that testify to the author's intense poetic, professional, and personal activity. It contains manuscripts of poetry, prose, translations, and a vast correspondence with important figures in twentieth-century culture. Thanks to the contribution of the Luino Lions Club, in 2007 the Municipality was able to acquire part of the original furnishings of his study and the poet's private library, which includes numerous first editions.
In 1999, the Sereni Fund was joined by thePiero Chiara Fund, dedicated to the literary and journalistic work of the Luino-born writer, including autographed materials, correspondence, photographs, and volumes from the writer's personal library. One section is dedicated to the first editions of his works, donated by Chiara himself to the Luino Civic Library.
