MUSEUMS

Art, sport, history and legends intertwine to tell the thousand facets of this territory

From sports to legends inspired by real events, to contemporary art and manufacturing tradition: the museums that populate theThe Verbano Valleys show the vast cultural and artistic richness of the territory.

The collection of memorabilia of the champion Alfredo Binda in Cittiglio celebrates his sporting career, while the International Museum of Ceramic Design in Cerro, overlooking Lake Maggiore, tells visitors about the important ceramic production in Laveno.

Contemporary art finds its place in other heterogeneous spaces always dedicated to its valorization, from the Bodini Museum in Gemonio to the Civic Museum Parisi-Valle in Maccagno.

In the village of Cadero, instead, the famous theft of the Gioconda by Valerio Peruggia from Dumentino found a small treasure chest entirely dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa and the many stories about her enigmatic smile. Instead local literature, such as that of Piero Chiara's novels and Vittorio Sereni's poems, is hosted in the Archives dedicated to them in Palazzo Verbania, in Luino.

The story finally moves on to in Cassano Valcuvia, where the Northern Frontier Documentation Centre – Cadorna Line is located: here, through documents, photographs and historical finds, the public is offered a glimpse of what the war brought to the upper Verbano area.
