HOW TO GET HERE
The Verbano Valleys extend in the northwestern part of the province of Varese, into Lombardy, between the Italian shores of Lake Maggiore and the slopes of the Prealps, and into the border with Switzerland
By car
From Milan and the A8 (Autostrada dei Laghi): exit at Varese or Buguggiate and continue towards Laveno or Luino along the SS394 or SP1.
From Turin (A4): take the A26 and exit at Gravellona Toce, then continue towards Lake Maggiore and follow the Lombardy side towards Laveno–Luino.
From Switzerland: from the Canton of Ticino you can enter the territory directly through the passes of Fornasette, Ponte Tresa, Cremenaga, Palone or Dirinella-Zenna.
By train
The main destinations are Luino and Laveno Mombello, easily accessible by train. From Milan, Trenord lines take you to Luino with a change in Gallarate, or to Laveno Mombello with a change in both Gallarate and Varese Nord. Trains also stop at smaller but equally important stations such as Cittiglio, Gemonio, Porto Valtravaglia, Caldè, Maccagno, and Pino-Tronzano.
Luino is also directly connected to Switzerland via the TILO railway line (Swiss regional trains), with departures from Bellinzona and Locarno.

On bus
Interurban buses operated by Autolinee Varesine depart from Luino train station, connecting the main cities, small inland towns, and Varese city center. Schedules vary depending on the season, so it is best to check in advance.

By boat
During the summer, the lakeside towns of the Verbano valleys (Luino, Laveno Mombello, Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca and Porto Valtravaglia) can also be reached by lake, thanks to the boats and ferries of Navigazione Laghi that connect them to each other and to the Piedmontese and Swiss shores of Lake Maggiore.
